By FitnessDude · Comments (1)
Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Time is one of the most expensive commodities we have right now. Every day is always a struggle to balance things out. Due to everyone’s hectic schedule; we try to forget the essentials. Sleep, eating healthy food, meeting loved ones, pampering oneself, and exercise are one of the things we take for granted.
For people who are on the go and still want to be as healthy as possible, make the move now and exercise. Being busy is never an excuse not to be fit. Exercising can always get into your schedule when you have the passion and commitment to do it. Hitting the gym is not the only way; you can work out in the comfort of your home or office.
Running Tights Beach 300x240 Perfect Workout Routine for Busy PeopleIf one is always depending on cars or a cab to take them to the office, then why not walk. When your workplace is on the 45th floor, then take the elevator to the 20th floor and walk from there.   Walking is the simplest, cheapest, and safest way to exercise, not to mention its cost free. It lowers blood cholesterol levels, increase bone density and mass, lowers blood pressure, and maintains normal body weight are some of the benefits it offers. Every step one make means a calorie burned in the body. Although results may not be obviously seen, if one does it every day then the benefits will show eventually. But before getting excited to walk, make sure that you won’t be late for work. Be sure also to use a good pair of rubber shoes and just change to your office shoes when you arrive.
During the weekends or your days off, make sure that you put an extra effort to exercise harder. You can do biking, swimming, hit the gym, jogging, or maybe try to walk for more miles. If you think that your family bonding time maybe compromised, why not bring them with you. In that way, you get to spend quality time together and be healthy.
Having a workout routine for busy people may be difficult for some, but if one has the conviction then it is not hard at all. Just have the right mind set and goals. No matter how busy you may be there is no excuse for not being healthy.

Here are some great home workouts that are easy to fit into your routine.  Tony Horton’s Ten Minute Trainer and Turbo Fire Workout.  Also check out what you can be doing to get flat abs.

Billy Blanks Tae-bo Workout

 Billy Blanks Tae bo Workout

Billy Blanks Tae-Bo has been around for a long time, and he is still putting out Tae-Bo workout DVD’s.  Billy developed this high paced kickboxing cardiovascular workout in 1976, but it was not until 1998 when Billy’s first workout video (VHS) was released.  This Tae-Bo workout literally swept the world by storm, by 1999 the there were millions of sales and everyone was doing Tae-Bo in their homes.  Billy’s most recent DVD release was in 2008, when he released the T3 workout.

billy blanks 2 300 209x300 Billy Blanks Tae bo WorkoutI still remember when Tae-Bo broke out onto the scene, it was absolutely nuts!  People were raving about this workout, and the success people were having was good.  The infomercials for Tae-Bo were dynamite for its success, because people ate it up like candy.  Tae-Bo changed a lot of things in the fitness world, it pioneered the way for home workout videos, it created new and fun ways for people to workout, and it also made gyms try to cash in on the Tae-Bo craze by offering their own kickboxing classes.  In a lot of ways Tae-Bo has been very good for the fitness world.

But what is Tae-Bo all about? Is it still worth getting?

Here is what Tae-Bo has to offer.

It offers a wide variety of workout DVD’s, since tae-Bo has been around for a while there are a lot of different workout to choose from.  The workouts are mainly based around high-energy cardio routines that are meant to pump your heart and shed fat.

You can by most DVD’s separately or as a set, giving you the option to spend less money or spend more money, but even the sets are only around 60 dollars.  So it is relatively cheap.

You do not have to buy any other equipment.  Tae-Bo mostly uses body resistance or it comes with the product you need.

Tae-Bo not only focuses on transforming the body, but also transforming the mind. (If you are into the spirit stuff)

Here are some Cons.

Most Tae-Bo workouts do not come with a nutrition plan, although the new T3 addressed that problem by offering an on-the-go eating guide and a weight loss eating plan, but nothing to extravagant.

Tae-Bo can become repetitive and monotonous. Doing the same workouts over and over again can be hard for a lot of people to stay motivated.

Tae-Bo does not address the workout plateau.  This means that even though you might see results right away from doing the workouts, over time your progress will start to diminish.  That is because your muscles and body get used to the workout routine.  Tae-Bo fails to include muscle confusion.

No Workout Equipment? No Excuse!

By FitnessDude · Comments (0)
Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

I here from people all the time how they want to workout, but they do not have the proper workout equipment to begin a workout routine.  Well my friends, that is a very lame excuse.  Some of the best workouts you can do, do not require workout equipment at all.  There is no reason why having no workout equipment should ever hold you back from having a workout routine.

stride stretch1 152x300 No Workout Equipment? No Excuse!Let’s think about it for a second…Let’s say you do not have any knee problems.  You do not need a treadmill or an elliptical  to have a cardiovascular workout.  Getting outside to run is very affective, and with the right pair of shoes you can eliminate a lot of aches and pains in your knees.

Lets say you want to build some lean muscle mass and get toned…You do not need a bench press or dumbbells to achieve lean muscle mass.  Doing push ups and lunges and squats can really give you some of the best results for building lean muscle mass.  You do not need workout equipment to get ripped.

There are many ways we can workout our core, shoulders, chest, back, and legs with no workout equipment.  If anything this should be encouraging.  It means you do not have to pay tons of money for a gym membership, or for home workout equipment.  You can do all these home workouts for free at no additional costs or contracts.  But like any workout routine, you need to be disciplined and motivated to actually do the workout.  There are many creative ways you can workout your body without any equipment, so I encourage you to think outside the box and have fun with your workouts.

Do Resistance Bands Work?

By FitnessDude · Comments (0)
Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

The past few years we have seen a rise in resistance bands, we have seen them in gyms and we have seen athletes use them.  What is the big deal about resistance bands?  Do resistance bands work?  How can you benefit from resistance bands?  The first time I picked up a resistance band I was very skeptical, I thought it was going to break and snap me right in the face.  As I started to use the resistance band I actually started to really enjoy how it worked my upper body and how it felt.  The feeling was very smooth; it was not jerky or uncomfortable.

SportLine BA4125AA 1 lg Do Resistance Bands Work? The principle is the same as free weights.  You lift free weights up and then you let the resistance of gravity bring it back down slowly.  With resistance bands you have resistance through the whole motion, when you lift up on the resistance band and when you release down.  So yes, resistance bands do work, and in some exercises they actually work better than free weights.  But when it comes down to it, it just depends what you like using better, free weights or resistance bands.  There are some benefits to using resistance bands, they are cheap and they are easy to travel with.  Also, there are plenty of different weighted resistance bands to choose from, and they are very easy to store in your house or pack in a suitcase when you travel for business, or go on a vacation.  There are many workouts you can do with resistance bands, especially if you have a door attachment.

I encourage you to give resistance bands a try; you might find that you like them more than using free weights.

My opinion…Bodylastics Resistance Bands are the best bands out there.

Does the P90x Workout Work?

By FitnessDude · Comments (0)
Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Lately I have been hearing a lot about this P90x workout also mistakenly known as the Px90 workout; apparently it says P90x will get you ripped in 90 days.  As always, I am more on the skeptic side of things when it comes to workouts that “promise” results, but I thought I would give the P90x workout system a fair review.

First let me layout the basics on what the P90x workout system is all about.

p90x logo12 300x64 Does the P90x Workout Work?Tony Horton is the man behind the P90x system.  P90x is a 90 day home workout program that focuses on a whole body workout.  There are three phases; each phase is one month long.  There are also three different ways you can chose to do the P90x workout system.  There is the Lean program, which focuses on cardio, there is the Classic program, which is the most popular, and there is the Doubles program, which has you do two workouts a day.

The P90x workout prides itself on “muscle confusion,” which is said to be why P90x works so well.  Each phase specializes on changing the way your muscles are worked out, so your muscles do not get familiar with the workout and experience a workout plateau.

There are 12 P90x workouts:

  • Chest and Back
  • Plyometrics
  • Ab Ripper X
  • Shoulders and Arms
  • Yoga X
  • Back and Biceps
  • Kenpo X
  • X Stretch
  • Core Synergistics
  • Cardio X
  • Chest, Shoulders and Triceps

Each workout is anywhere between 45 and 90 minutes long, except for the Ab Ripper X workout, which is about 15 minutes long.

P90x comes with a nutrition guide that matches up with the three workout phases, and it is suggested that you have dumbbells, resistance bands, and a chin up bar.  There are many other products that compliment the P90x workout.  P90x has multi-vitamins, protein bars, a muscle recovery drink, and its very own designed chin up bar.

So here is my take on Tony Horton’s P90x Workout

The P90x workout system is primarily a muscle building program, not a weight loss program.  Now just because it is a muscle building program, that does not mean that P90x is going to bulk you up.  You have the option on building lean muscle mass or heavy muscle mass.  If you are a person who does not work out often and is obese or overweight, this program is probably not for you.  P90x is mainly for people who have little fat to lose.  P90x is specialized for people who want to bust through their workout plateau, so they can achieve those six pack and a toned body.

I actually do like the P90x workout system and I believe that it will work; it is matched well with a great nutrition guide that you can actually live by and that will fuel your body through the workouts.   My only drawback to the P90x workout system is that it might take longer than 90 days, three months just isn’t that long.

Overall, I like the workouts that P90x provides and that it focuses on muscle confusion.  There are some great body resistance workouts, stretching workouts, and cardio workouts.  I would suggest doing a little more cardio to maximize your results.

You should definitely consult your doctor before chosing to do the P90x Program, also do the P90x Fit test.

Should you workout if you’re sick?

By FitnessDude · Comments (0)
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

This is a great question that many people ask.  Should I workout if you I’m feeling sick?  Is it safe? Can I make my sickness worse if I workout?  There are actually a few answers to this question because it depends on what type of sickness you have.

flu Should you workout if youre sick?Lets say you have a cold, you might have a mild sore throat, a stuffy or runny nose, maybe even some sneezing.  You will probably be okay to workout.  Now, you might not be able to exercise hard like you usually do, but you will be able to do some moderate workouts.  Working out when you have the common cold might actually give you some temporary relief, because your nasal passage can open up, and help you breathe. If you do decide to workout with a congested nose, be careful when taking any mucus relief medication, because you might feel queasy in the middle of your workout and possibly vomit.  Another thing to keep in mind, if you feel like your cold could be contagious, you should stay home and workout instead of going to the gym in the risk of causing other people to get sick.  But you should be fine to exercise.

On the other hand, lets say that you are experiencing an upset stomach, and you already feel like you could throw up, it would probably be a good idea to take the day off and not workout.  Anytime you are experiencing tightness or congestion in the chest, any shortness of breath, or a cough that is persistent, it would be a good idea to skip your workouts for that amount of time.  You should not exercise if you are experiencing a fever or the flu, you need to stay home and get some rest and see a doctor.

The most important thing to do when you are sick is to use common sense, and if you have any doubts consult your doctor.
