April is TRX Month on Ask The Fitness Dude!!
Here is the TRX workout of the day…The TRX Atomic Push Up. The Atomic push up was the workout that got me hooked on the TRX suspension trainer. This is one of my favorite workouts to do, mostly because I love push-ups. I think push-ups are one of the best workouts anyone can do for their bodies, and when performed on a suspension trainer they are even better. The Atomic Push-up is another TRX workout that exercises more than one muscle group at a time. This workout mainly focuses on your upper-body and your abdominal muscles.
Here is how you perform the TRX Atomic Push-up:
Adjust your suspension trainer to mid-calf range, then stick your feet in the foot straps. Get your body in the push-up position, aka “plank position.” Make sure that your hands are slightly wider than your shoulders and that your toes are drawn to your shins to activate a strong plank position. Once you are in the right position you are ready to begin the workout. Perform a push-up (down then up), then draw your knees to your chest, thrusting your butt into the air (in and out), then repeat. Do as many as you can, once your back starts to sag, then you are done with the workout.
Extra Challenge!…Perform the Atomic Push-Up to a metronome so that you do the workout controlled and on a tempo. Do as many as you can. Here is a video so show you a visual on how to perform the TRX atomic Push-up:
