Aerobic Exercises for Weight Loss

By FitnessDude · Comments (0)

swimming pic 300x211 Aerobic Exercises for Weight Loss The good part about aerobics is that the heart rate is increased, the level of oxygen too and thus the body burns more fat. We will now present some of the most common and basic, but at the same time – effective – aerobic exercises which you can even do at home.

1.     Dancing – the most preferred aerobic workout, especially by women. Why? Because it is fun and makes you fit quite quickly if done on a regular basis. You can either buy some dance exercise videos or can just go through the TV channels – there are lots of aerobic shows

2.     Cycling – 30-40 minutes of this several times a week can make miracles, by toning your entire body, especially your legs. Jumping rope – and some lively music are the perfect mixture of fun and workout that will make you lose lots of fat and have a fit body

3.     Walking – one of the best cardio exercises; just go for a walk in the park and then increase you speed.

4.     Running / Jogging – can really make you feel better not only physically, but mentally too. Get out of the house and jog in the park. It relaxes your mind and tones your body.

5.     Swimming – best for women because it burns fat and also makes the muscles longer. And you can practice it every day of the year thanks to indoor pools.

6.     Cardio Equipment – step machines, treadmills – just pick one you like.

You don’t necessarily have to stick with only one activity – just mix them!

Strategies To Improve Your Weight Loss

iStockWeightLossFearB Strategies To Improve Your Weight LossThese days it is easy to accumulate fat because we get an abundance of relishing foods easily available in the market. We have ruled out exercises from our lives by structuring communities with no walkways for safe walking. We have invented gadgets like remote controls and escalators that have reduced our movement.

There are three weight management strategies that can help to minimize fat gain and weight loss without feeling deprived of good food.

Strategy #1: Boost your calcium intake.

Consuming calcium rich foods three to four times a day can burn up to 100 calories of body fat. Calcium rich diets are helpful for not only maintains weight, but also for regulating blood pressure. Low fat Calcium preferably from dairy foods is most effective.

Strategy #2: Eat breakfast

Skipping breakfast is not a good way to eliminate calories; mostly you will find that the breakfast skippers are fatter than most breakfast eaters. When we eat heavy breakfast we end up consuming almost 100 Calories less by the end of the day. Hence, eating breakfast is one strategy which can make a big difference in weight management.

Strategy #3: Eat more fiber and whole grain food

Protein rich foods come with unhealthy saturated fat and excess calories which can result in weight gain, so it is better to avoid them and have fiber rich foods. One can lessen the calorie content of a casserole almost by 30 percent. This can be done by adding some bulky vegetables like celery, mushrooms, and peppers. You will find that people will tend to consume lesser calories without even noticing the difference.

Top three reasons why you are not losing weight?

By FitnessDude · Comments (1)
Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Ever wondered why despite your utmost efforts you are still not shedding the extra pounds? Do you wake up every day facing the mirror and saying to yourself, this should not be the fruit of my labor? There could be something wrong. Every year weight loss companies get richer and richer. Why? It is all because most of us are relying on these products and their promises. Yet we still do not have the results they offer.

Perhaps the problem is not with these products, its maybe because of you. You may have the intentions, but don’t have the will. Attitude is the primary reason why people don’t succeed in losing weight.  A lot of people give up after a week of working out because according to them nothing is happening. Exercising and lifting does not always offer instant results and we sometimes forget that. Have a realistic target. Losing weight is a huge aim and it takes time to see positive results.  What you need to have is the right attitude and the motivation to achieve your goal.

Second is unhealthy lifestyle. Your activities of daily living play an important role in decreasing your weight. You may be strict on following your diet but your routines are unhealthy, still positive results are unlikely to occur. Being a couch potato, failing to appear on your scheduled yoga class, being lazy all the time, and simply having no time to exercise; definitely you will never lose weight. An unhealthy habit no matter how small it may seem when coupled with another one will make you slip out of focus.  Changing a bad habit is never easy. You have to give up a routine that you have been used to all your life. But think of what your sacrifice will give you afterward.

annoyed woman on scale1 300x199 Top three reasons why you are not losing weight?Last…is failing to enjoy. When you feel that you are deprived of certain things your body releases a hormone called cortisone. Cortisone is a hormone released during stress which decreases our body’s metabolism. When your metabolism is low you burn fewer calories. Don’t forget to enjoy even when you are on a diet. Who says that you cannot eat your favorite anymore? You still can. The key is to do everything in moderation.

You can find out more on how to lose weight and get flat abs by reading the truth about abs book.

What Are HCG Injections?

By FitnessDude · Comments (4)
Thursday, July 15th, 2010

I recently was made aware of this drug called Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) when I heard that one of my friends was using it to lose weight.  My friend has always been a larger person, not fat, but built pretty well.  However, In the last couple years this person started to gain weight because of some unfortunate circumstances in their life.  There are many people who go through rough times that try to cope with their situations by eating.

This friend made the choice to buy these HCG Injections and has already lost a ton of weight.  Before I knew anything about the drug, I asked my friend about it and he told me that you have to inject it.  Of course I was totally thrown off and completely cautious when I heard that my friend was injecting himself with a drug for weight lose.  I have never been a believer in taking pills, or injections for weight loss…in fact, I am strongly against it. I immediately went home and started researching this drug called HCG.  Here is what I’ve found:

Human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG, is a hormone produced during pregnancy, found in the blood and excreted through urine. HCG injections are prescribed to treat infertility by causing ovulation in women and increasing sperm count in men. Recently, people started to use it to help with losing weight, but there has been no research supporting the theory that HCG injections are good for this purpose. When you are on the HCG injections, you are supposed to be on a 500 calorie per day diet. Most people credit the weight loss to the diet plan.

hcg injections What Are HCG Injections? There are many effects on the body that can occur from taking HCG injections. Here are some of those effects…pelvic pain, abdominal swelling, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, swelling of the hands or legs, weight gain, difficulty breathing and urinating less than normal, blood clotting, welling, warmth, redness, and numb or tingling sensations in an arm or leg.

The problem with taking HCG Injections, is that you will actually gain weight once you get off of it, and probably a lot more weight then when you first started.

The Best Fitness Foods

By FitnessDude · Comments (0)
Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Other than exercising and working out your body, the best thing you can do for your fitness is eating healthy.  Food is important for fueling our bodies, and when we eat the correct food we can turn our bodies into a fat burning, muscle building, and lean machine with tons of energy.  Food and fitness go hand and hand, they are like the dynamic duo! There is a terrible rumor that says, “Healthy food is lame.”  This statement is so far from the truth, because the fact is…food can be healthy and delicious.  I do have to say, if you are a vegetarian…you probably will not enjoy this article.

Here are four different foods that are great for your fitness:

Let’s start if off right!

filet mignon ck 491665 l2 The Best Fitness FoodsBeef – I used to love watching those beef commercials, “Beef, its whats for dinner.”  I loved it!  Even though the commercials were awesome, red meat has gotten a pretty bad rap over the years, but did you know that beef is 20% leaner than it was 10 years ago.  And if you eat grass-fed beef, it can actually help lower your cholesterol.  There is so many benefits to eating beef.  Beef highly contains amino-acids, which are great for building muscle.  A 3-ounce steak provides over 10% of your daily intake for some nutrients.  Including B6 and B12, protein, phosphorus, niacin, selenium, and riboflavin.  Beef also includes a healthy dose of zinc and iron.  But with any type of food, do not over do it.  You can have a 3-ounce steak around 3-4 times a week.  Look For steaks that are less in fat, like rounds steaks or top sirloin steaks, filet mignons are also low in fat and super good.

oatmeal heart The Best Fitness FoodsOatmeal – Breakfast is for champions!  And Oatmeal is a great breakfast.  The wonderful thing about oatmeal, is that it is quick and easy to make.  Plus you can add other incredible foods to it.  Like blueberries, raspberries, bananas, and strawberries..the list goes on and on.  Oatmeal is not only good for your heart, but it is also good for weight loss.  Oatmeal is rich with soluble fiber, with helps lower you cholesterol.  When picking oatmeal, make sure that you get normal oatmeal.  Oatmeal packets usually have a lot of added sugars in them.  Look for quick oats in the big tubs.

wholewheatbread 300x199 The Best Fitness Foods“100%” Whole-Wheat Bread – The reason I emphasized “100%,” is because only true whole wheat bread have 100% on it.  So make sure to buy 100% whole-wheat or whole-grain bread.  Whole-wheat bread is great for giving you energy, and it does not spike your energy levels like white bread does.  White bread cause your body to store fat, whole-wheat bread does not.  Whole-wheat bread will also help you feel full longer.

lg grilledsalmon The Best Fitness FoodsSalmon – You probably love or hate it, but it is still one of the best foods you can eat for fitness.  3-ounces of salmon provide you with 20-grams of protein! And why is protein so important?  Because it helps speed up your metabolism 3-4 times faster than carbs or fat, plus it helps fill you up.  Salmon is also rich in Omega-3′s, which are fatty acids that help clean your arteries.  Salmon is like the superman food.  It is great for muscle building and for keep your heart healthy.

 Billy Blanks Tae bo Workout

Billy Blanks Tae-Bo has been around for a long time, and he is still putting out Tae-Bo workout DVD’s.  Billy developed this high paced kickboxing cardiovascular workout in 1976, but it was not until 1998 when Billy’s first workout video (VHS) was released.  This Tae-Bo workout literally swept the world by storm, by 1999 the there were millions of sales and everyone was doing Tae-Bo in their homes.  Billy’s most recent DVD release was in 2008, when he released the T3 workout.

billy blanks 2 300 209x300 Billy Blanks Tae bo WorkoutI still remember when Tae-Bo broke out onto the scene, it was absolutely nuts!  People were raving about this workout, and the success people were having was good.  The infomercials for Tae-Bo were dynamite for its success, because people ate it up like candy.  Tae-Bo changed a lot of things in the fitness world, it pioneered the way for home workout videos, it created new and fun ways for people to workout, and it also made gyms try to cash in on the Tae-Bo craze by offering their own kickboxing classes.  In a lot of ways Tae-Bo has been very good for the fitness world.

But what is Tae-Bo all about? Is it still worth getting?

Here is what Tae-Bo has to offer.

It offers a wide variety of workout DVD’s, since tae-Bo has been around for a while there are a lot of different workout to choose from.  The workouts are mainly based around high-energy cardio routines that are meant to pump your heart and shed fat.

You can by most DVD’s separately or as a set, giving you the option to spend less money or spend more money, but even the sets are only around 60 dollars.  So it is relatively cheap.

You do not have to buy any other equipment.  Tae-Bo mostly uses body resistance or it comes with the product you need.

Tae-Bo not only focuses on transforming the body, but also transforming the mind. (If you are into the spirit stuff)

Here are some Cons.

Most Tae-Bo workouts do not come with a nutrition plan, although the new T3 addressed that problem by offering an on-the-go eating guide and a weight loss eating plan, but nothing to extravagant.

Tae-Bo can become repetitive and monotonous. Doing the same workouts over and over again can be hard for a lot of people to stay motivated.

Tae-Bo does not address the workout plateau.  This means that even though you might see results right away from doing the workouts, over time your progress will start to diminish.  That is because your muscles and body get used to the workout routine.  Tae-Bo fails to include muscle confusion.

eec1c9aa62dfa549 billy blanks taebo amped.xlarger 300x232 Billy Blanks Tae bo WorkoutPersonally, if you are an at home workout DVD type of person, I feel that there are better choices out there than Tae-Bo, that include different styles of workouts and better nutrition guides.  Even though Tae-Bo has been around for a long time and is affordable, it just does not offer what you can get from other at home workout DVD’s.  Other home workouts to check out are P90x, Insanity Workout, Turbo Jam, and 10 Minute Trainer

Quick weight loss side effects

By FitnessDude · Comments (0)
Monday, December 21st, 2009

Do not worry!! The side effects I am talking about are because people have either been starving themselves, taking diet pills, or have had some type of surgery.  Remember, the best way to lose weight is naturally with a healthy diet and a workout routine that can meet the demands of your body.  If you are starving yourself, taking diet pills, or had surgery, then you can worry.

Rebounding the Weight

quick weight loss 300x2771 Quick weight loss side effectsIt is completely unnatural for your body to loss weight quickly in a short period of time.  When you take diet pills it can alter the chemistry of your body, which will actually cause a weight gain, and you will be worse off then before.  Rebound weight gain is probably the most common side effect that people experience with unhealthy weight loss programs.

This can frustrate anyone trying to lose weight.  It is easier to keep off weight that has been properly lost, than weight that has been lost in some sort of diet pill or unhealthy weight loss program.

Baggy Skin

This is a common side effect that occurs for people who get gastric bypass surgery or liposuction surgery.  If you only have a few pounds to lose, then you really do not need to worry about this side effect.

The reason this side effect happens to people who have surgeries, is because they lose their weight so quickly…Overnight!  There is no way for the body to recover from a surgery like that.  The skin has no time to adjust to all the fat that has been lost.  The only way to reduce loose skin, is to get another surgical procedure, which is just another way to cough over your money.

Dehydration

This side effect often happens with people who are involved in a sport that requires weight limits, like wrestling.  This is a very serious side effect because if you dehydrate yourself to much it can actually resolve in death.  This is a mistake that many people make when trying to lose weight quickly.

There are people who can lose up to 10 pounds by depriving themselves of fluids, but it is just water weight, which will be put back on easily.  Plus, it is just to risky to dehydrate yourself because you can encounter some serious health issues, and you can hurt your metabolism in the process.

Correct Running Form: Lower Body

By FitnessDude · Comments (2)
Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

This is part two of the Correct Running Form article, the first article focused on the importance of having correct running form with your upper body, this article will focus on the lower half of your body.  Again, it is important to have correct running form to help you prevent injury and to get the most out of your running workout.  You want to make sure that you do not cheat yourself in any way.

We have already hit on the form for your head, shoulders, torso, and arms.  Now we will focus on your hips, legs, and feet.

We will begin by talking about the hips, have you ever heard the little song, “It’s all in the hips, it’s all in the hips.”  Well…it is.  Your hips are a key component to a good running posture.  The hips are your center of gravity; your hips make sure that your body is properly balanced so you can prevent injury.  Your torso and your hips work together as a unit, if your torso is straight your hips will be upright, if your torso is bent forward then your hips will be tilted forward.  You want to make sure that your hips are not tilted forward but are in an upright position.  If your hips are tilted forward you can put unwanted stress on your lower back.

running legs 300x200 Correct Running Form: Lower BodyNow lets talk about the part of the body that actually propels you forward…your legs.  Lets face it, you could not run if you had no legs.  There is a difference between sprinting and endurance running.  If you are sprinting, you will want to lift your knees up higher for maximum power, but we are focusing on endurance running.  With endurance it is not necessary to bring your knees up as high as would if you were sprinting, you simply could not keep that pace for a long endurance run.  You do not want a long stride, nor do you want a very short stride, but you want to make sure that you feel comfortable in your stride.  It is better to be on the shorter side of stride, than the longer side.  You will save energy and will protect your knees better.

Last but not least, you will need proper running form in your feet/ankles.  You do not want to run flat footed, and you want to make sure that you do not pound your feet on the ground.  You want to land right in between your heel and your arch, then roll forward to the ball of your feet.  You want to make sure that you you land lightly on your feet and that your ankle is flexed as you roll forward and push off.  You definitely want a spring in your step.  Make sure that you get a good running shoe that fits your foot properly; this can make all the difference.

So now that you know the proper running form for your whole body, go out and start running with the assurance that you are getting the most out of your running workout.

Slendertone Ab Belt

By FitnessDude · Comments (0)
Monday, November 2nd, 2009

I cannot believe I am actually writing about this “muscle building” product, but I actually had a person ask me about the Slendertone Ab Belt the other day.  So I thought for the sake of my friend and for the sake of others, I should write about this so-called piece of workout equipment.

slendertone ab belt 300x199 Slendertone Ab BeltSo you have probably seen the infomercials of the Slendertone Ab Belt and it probably looks to good to be true.  Well…it is!  The Slendertone Ab Belt is a complete scam, and any other ab belts that promise you six pack abs are also scams.  It would be nice to live in a world that we can sit around on our butts, watch TV and lose fat by putting on the Slendertone Ab Belt, but unfortunately we do not live in such a world.  Instead we live in a world where people get taken advantage of in there desperate state to lose weight.

I really do wish the Slendertone Ab belt or any other Ab belt toner worked, it would give a lot of people an easy option to shed off some unwanted pounds, but the fact is that it does not work.  They have no research to back up their Slendertone Ab Belt product.  If you read the fine print it says that, matched with exercise and a nutrition plan you can see results.  Well of course you are going to see results!! Exercise and a healthy nutrition plan will help you lose weight.

Let me tell you what does work with Electric Stimulation…

When I was younger, I tore my knee up pretty bad.  I was not able to walk on my leg for three weeks, in that three weeks my quad muscle pretty much disappeared.  I was able to touch my right hand fingers to my left hand fingers when I gripped around my thigh.  When I began physical therapy, the therapists started hooking the muscles around my knee up to an electric muscle stimulation device.  This got my curiosity going, I asked my physical therapists if the Ab belt toners actually worked, because they were using it on my knee.  He said no, not at all!  He went on to say that the only way electric muscle stimulation works is to give an inactive muscle the help to start usage again.   Which is the reason physical therapist use electric stimulation, because they deal with people who have been injured and have inactive muscles.

The only thing that the Slendertone Ab belt and other Ab belt toners are good for is irritating the skin.  You will not get six pack abs or burn tons of fat because of the Slendertone Ab Belt.
